Blogs vs. Instagram – a neverending Story
Blogs and Instagram, the neverending story. Just a little while ago I asked myself in this post in which direction Instagram will develop. How far can the thriving for perfection go? Until how many followers are you a “real” influencer and which follower number will we need tomorrow? Just at the end of October I described the Instagram phenomenon that captures so many fashionblogs. They producte less and less content, the blogrolls stay empty. Instead, many influencers especially in the fashion area solely concentrate on the photo app now.
That it totally makes sense to concentrate your social media activities on Instagram describes Sarah in this post about her experiences in fashion PR (unfortunately the post is only available in German). She writes about the fact that fashion companies are mainly interested in the number of followers on Instagram and not in blogs. We can find this stupid but it is reality. So we should make the best out of it. For a long time Insta hast just been a small “sidekick” to my blog, meanwhile I invest more and more time and energy in this platform.
Give up on the Blog?
Is it an option to only post sporadicly every two weeks or give up on the blog completely? This is completely out of question for me. My reasons why I still hold on my “oldschool” webblog and why I am still convinced of this kind of media you can read here:
- differentiation criterion: To create nice looking Instagram photos and put together a harmonious feed is one thing. To set up a complete homepage, produce a whole series of photos and write good texts? Not everyone is capable of doing so. Wouldn’t it be great if a company would pay attention because of the Instagram account. Then discovers your blog and is even more amazed? There are uncountable good Instagrammers out there. Good bloggers get less and less.
- more space for creativity: Of course you can be creative on Instagram. But not just the force of having the perfect feed sets boundaries. A blog simply offers more space to be creative in so many different ways.
- another source of income: Yes, I admit it openly. I am happy every time I can make a little extra income with my online activities. When it comes to my hobby, my main source of income is still my blog. Probably because of the reason that there is not as much competition when it comes to fashion blogs with regular fresh content. Additionally I’m still trying every day to make my blog a little better. Not matter if it is about exciting content or just the weblayout. Which was, as you have may noticed, updated. So I would be really happy about your feedback!

Blogs vs. Instagram – eine unendliche Geschichte
Blogs und Instagram, die unendliche Geschichte. Erst vor kurzem habe ich mich in diesem Beitrag gefragt, in welche Richtung sich Instagram wohl entwickeln wird. Wie weit wird der Perfektionismus noch gehen? Ab wann ist man heute ein “echter” Influencer und welche Followerzahl brauchen wir morgen? Und Ende Oktober habe ich hier das Instagram-Phänomen beschrieben, dass viele Modeblogs erfasst. Sie werden nicht mehr mit Content versorgt, die Blogrolls bleiben leer. Stattdessen konzentrieren sich alle nur noch auf die schnelle Foto-App.
Dass die Konzentration der Social Media-Aktivitäten auf Instagram durchaus seinen Sinn hat, schreibt auch Sarah in einem Beiträg über ihre Erfahrungen während eines PR-Praktikums. Demnach interessieren sich Modefirmen kaum noch für Blogs, ihnen geht es vielmehr um die Anzahl der Follower auf Instagram. Das kann man natürlich blöd finden, aber es ist nunmal die Realität. Also sollten wir versuchen das Beste daraus zu machen. War Instagram lange nur ein kleiner “Nebenzeitvertreib” für mich, investiere ich mittlerweile auch viel mehr Zeit und Energie in die App.
Den Blog aufgeben?
Doch auf meinem Blog nur noch alle zwei Wochen sporadisch zu posten oder ihn gar ganz aufzugeben? Das kommt für mich absolut nicht in Frage. Meine Gründe, warum ich immer noch “oldschool” am Webblog festhalte und von diesem Medium überzeugt bin, lest ihr hier:
- Differenzierungskriterium: Schöne Instagram-Bilder zu erstellen und einen stimmigen Feed zu kreieren ist eine Sache, doch eine Homepage zu gestalte, ganze Fotostrecken zu produzieren und gute Texte schreiben? Das kann nicht jeder. Wäre es nicht wundervoll, wenn Unternehmen durch Instagram auf einen aufmerksam werden und dann noch begeisterter von dem Blog sind? Gute Instagrammer gibt es mittlerweile wie Sand am Meer, gute Blogger werden eher weniger.
- Mehr Platz für Kreativität: Natürlich kann man auch auf Instagram kreativ sein. Doch nicht nur der immer größere Zwang zu einem perfekten Feed schränken die Kreativität ein. Ein Blog bietet einfach viel mehr Platz, um auf vielfältigere Art und Weise seine Kreativität auszuleben.
- Zusätzliche Einnahmequelle: Ja ich gebe es offen zu. Ich freue mich, wenn ich hin und wieder mit meiner Online-Aktivität Geld verdiene. Meine Haupteinnahmequelle ist dabei nach wie vor mein Blog. Wahrscheinlich auch aus dem Grund, dass es mittlerweile weniger Konkurrenten gibt, wenn es um Blogs geht, die regelmäßig mit frischem Inhalt versorgt werden. Außerdem ist es mir weiterhin wichtig, meinen Blog weiter zu verbessern. Egal, ob es um spannende Inhalte geht oder schlicht das Webdesign. Wie ihr vielleicht seht, habe ich dieses überarbeitet. Über euer Feedback würde ich mich sehr freuen!

love this look!! i believe in the power of blogging and technically i use instagram as an added way to draw attention to my website/blog which is what it was initially used for. to me, they are both equally important and love being able to share on both channels.

Ja, da denke ich auch, dass der Hauptfokus doch auf dem Blog liegt und hier eine Entwicklung zu sehen ist. Wer heute bei Insta “In” ist, kann morgen schon wieder “out” sein.

Liebe Kristina, Das ist wirklich ein spannendes Thema, das du hier ansprichst. Ich habe mich lange Zeit auf Instagram konzentriert und war ursprünglich auch “instablogger” bevor ich meinen eigenen Blog gelauncht habe. Allerdings fällt mir auf, dass man den Erfolg auf Instagram dank der super nervigen Algorithmen nicht mehr so wirklich beeinflussen kann. Der Blog allerdings ist und bleibt das eigene “Baby” und mir macht die Arbeit daran mittlerweile viel mehr Spaß! Hier habe ich das Gefühl, wirklich etwas zu schaffen 🙂

I like Instagram and I personally want to use it more, but I’ll always be a blogger first and foremost and I like to read blogs more than anything. I think you can get better, more interesting content.

Let’s be honest… Instagram is a platform full of fake influencer and some agencys don’t wanna know or people working there just finished university and really don’t know about the business.
Just google it.. there are so many possibilities to buy followers… even real ones… haha.
So check the follow like rate and the real engagement below some pictures and you”ll realize that the smaller accounts are more worth it. Hopefully some PR chicks will get smarter soon or Instagram will be history…

Für mich ist mein Blog auch definitiv wichtiger als Instagram. Dort bin ich mein eigener Herr und nicht abhängig von irgendwelchen Algorithmen, die einem den Spaß nehmen. Gleichzeitig finde ich es auch sehr schade, dass viele Blogs verwaist sind und die Besitzerinnen nur noch auf Instagram aktiv sind. Gerade bei vielen Blogs die noch vor zwei Jahren zu den größten gezählt haben kann man die Entwicklung deutlich erkennen.

I’m so with you on this topic. At the end of the day, my blog is my baby and no one can take it away from me. Instagram? Well we are at the mercy of Facebook. They can take it away or control it and we have no say. I believe they are building a culture that will back fire on them and more of us will retreat and hang out where we are happiest (at our blogs). Thanks for joining our Style Wise Link Up party!
