Nicht nur architektonisch, sondern auch kulinarisch gesehen war unser Chicago-Trip ein voller Erfolg. Ich hätte am liebsten noch viel mehr Restaurants getestet, aber dann hätte ich wohl nicht mehr in meinen Flugzeugsitz für den Rückflug gepasst.
1. Eines meiner persönlichen Highlights war Chinatown. Meine Chance auf authentisches chinesisches Essen außerhalb von China! Ich wurde nicht enttäuscht, im Triple Crown gab es leckeres Dim Sum, Ente und Hühnchen süß-sauer.
2. Ein wenig “rustikaler” ging es in Dick’s Last Resort zu. Das Essen war hier auch eher Nebensache. In diesem Restaurant ging es uns eher um die wunderschöne Aussicht über den Chicago River direkt über dem River Walk. Die Cocktails waren aber sehr lecker – auch wenn es in diesem Lokal zum guten Ton gehört, seine Gäste zu beleidigen (ein echt schräges Geschäftsmodell).
Außerdem mussten wir danach nur ca. zehn Meter zu unseren Hotel laufen.Not just architecturally but also culinarily was our Chicago trip an amazing experience. I would have loved to test even more restaurants but I wanted to still fit in the seat of the airplane on the way back.1. One of my personal highlights was Chinatown. Authentic Chinese food outside of China, yeah! And I wasn’t disappointed: we visited Triple Crown where we ate delicious Dim Sum, duck and chicken sweet-sour.2. A little simpler was the menu in Dick’s Last Resort. But here the food was just a side issue. We chose the restaurant mainly because of the beautiful view over the Chicago river directly above the River Walk. However, the cocktails were really good – although it belongs to the restaurant’s concept to insult their guests (crazy isn’t it?). After our visit we had to walk about ten meters to our hotel, which was also a good point for this premise.
3. Ein Muss für jeden, der Chicago das erste Mal besucht, ist DER Klassiker der Stadt: Die Deep Dish Pizza! Erfunden wurde sie bei Uno’s. Ich wollte unbedingt das Original probieren, also standen wir etwa eine Stunde am Freitagabend in der Schlange, um einen Tisch zu bekommen. Und es hat sich gelohnt. Kleiner Tipp: Bestellt keine zu große Pizza, ich habe nur eineinhalb Stücke geschafft.
Wenn ihr keine Lust habt, so viel Wartezeit einzuplanen – die Deep Dish Pizza bieten auch andere Pizzerien in der Stadt an wie z.B. Giordano’s oder Lou Malnati’s.3. Definitely a must for everyone who is visiting Chicago for the first time is THE most famous pizza in town: The Deep Dish Pizza! It was invented at Uno’s. I wanted to try the original so we have stood in line for over an hour to get a table on Friday night. And it was worth it! But let me tell you one thing: do not order to much! I just managed to finish one and a half slice.However, if you don’t want to wait that long for your meal – the Deep Dish Pizza is also offered by other pizza places such as Giordano’s or Lou Malnati’s.
4. Ihr fragt euch, was dieses letzte Foto zeigt? Es sind Pretzel-Pancakes mit Vanille-Karamell-Sauce! Verrückte, süße Frühstücksgerichte, aber auch herzhafte findet ihr im Bongo Room. Definitiv ein Besuch am Morgen Wert.

Crazy, sweet breakfast menus (but also hearty and healthy) such as this you will find in the Bongo Room. Definitely worth a visit in the morning.5. Und dann habe ich noch einen Tipp von euch, der nicht von mir stammt: Christine vom Travel- und Food-Blog “Where Christine Was” hat mir noch wärmstens das “Au Cheval” empfohlen – leider haben wir den angeblich besten Burgerladen der Stadt zeitlich nicht mehr probieren können.5. And then I have another tip for you which is not from me: Christine, author of the travel and food blog “Where Christine Was” highly recommended the “Au Cheval” – unfortunately there was not enough time left to visit the alleged best burger restaurant in Chicago.
