My 5 Favorite Food Spots in Lisbon

Food is Life

One of my highlights in every new city that I visit? Trying new restaurants! Food is not just quality of life for me but also the perfect opportunity to relax  and recharge batteries during an eventful citytrip. So I browsed through Lisbon city guides and travel blogs for finding the ultimate food locations. Here are the five restaurants I tried and liked a lot!

1. Royale Café

In this case I followed the recommendations from teetharejade.com and wasn’t disappointed. This pretty little restaurant offers a small but really fine selection of definitely “instagramable” delicacies.

2. Mercado da Ribeira

This market hall is the perfect location for a snack after the return from the ferry to Cristo Rei. It is kind of a giant food court with many different restaurants  and seating areas in the center. We ate burgers from the Portoguese chain Honorato.

3. A Praça

The LX Factory is a must-see in Lisbon. Colorful and creative (although a little too overpriced) is it definitely worth a visit – also because of several restaurants and cafés. First we enjoyed a light dinner at A Praça and then we luckily got a nightly cheesecake at LXeese Cake.

4. Jesus é Goês

A real insider’s tip is this tiny funny restaurant. If we hadn’t searched it purposefully we would have passed the inconspicuous door. As unspectacular it looks from the outside as suprised I was from the inside. The walls are elaborately painted with colorful Indian images. By the way, Goa has been a Portuguese colony for centuries. It is still culutrally influenced by this time.

My tip: Try the mango milkshake, it is perfect for the spicy food!

5. Tapas Da Trinidade

In the quiet neighborhood of the Royale Café are several restaurants located. They all look really nice and you can sit outside in the sun. One of them is  Tapas Da Trinidade. We were even lucky to be able to sit outside at the first of January sine it was so warm and sunny.

My tip: The sangria and the tomato rice, so aromatic.

Pastéis de Belém

Something you cannot miss in Lissabon is this classic, the Pastéis de Belém. It is a small flaky pastry with a vanilla filling. Eat it warm and with cinnamon – so delicious!

Essen ist immer ein Highlight

Eines meiner Highlights in jeder Stadt, die ich das erste Mal besuche? Restaurants testen! Essen ist für mich nicht nur Lebensqualität, ein entspanntes Essen ist auch die perfekte Gelegenheit während eines ereignisreichen Citytrips einmal durchzuatmen und etwas Energie zu tanken. Also habe ich auch vor unserem Lissabon-Trip Reiseführer und Blogs nach den ultimativen Food-Tipps durchstöbert und auch selbst die Augen nach vielversprechenden Lokalen aufgehalten. Die folgenden fünf Restaurants haben mir besonders gut gefallen:

1. Royale Café

Hier bin ich der Empfehlung von teetharejade.com gefolgt und wurde nicht enttäuscht. Diese wunderschöne kleine Lokal bietet eine kleine, aber feine Auswahl künstlerisch angerichteter Köstlichkeiten.

2. Mercado da Ribeira

Diese Markthalle eignet sich perfekt für einen Snack nach der Rückkehr von der Überfahrt zu Cristo Rei. Es ist eine Art riesiger Food Court mit den verschiedensten Restaurants ringsherum und Sitzgelegenheiten in der Mitte. Wir haben hier Burger bei der portugiesischen Kette Honorato gegessen.

3. A Praça

Die LX Factory ist insgesamt

ein Must-See in Lissabon. Zwar vielleicht etwas zu gewollt “hipstermäßig” ist diese Anlage trotzdem auf jeden Fall einen Besuch Wert – auch aufgrund zahlreicher Restaurants und Cafés. Wir haben zuerst ein leichtes Abendessen im A Praça genossen und konnten danach sogar noch einen Cheesecake bei LXeese Cake ergattern.

4. Jesus é Goês

Ein echter Geheimtipp ist dieses winzige Restaurant. Hätten wir es nicht gezielt gesucht, wären wir sicher an der unscheinbaren Tür vorbeigelaufen. So unscheinbar es von außen ist, so liebvoll und bunt sind die Wände innen gestaltet. Die Richtung ist übrigens indisch. Goa war jahrhundertelang eine portugiesische Kolonie und ist auch heute noch kulturell sehr durch diese Zeit geprägt.

Mein Tipp: Der Mango Milkshake zu dem höllisch scharfen Essen!

5. Tapas Da Trinidade

In der ruhigen Nachbarschaft des Royale Café befinden sich mehrere gehobenere Lokale, bei denen man auch draußen sitzen kann. Ein weiteres, das wir getestet haben, ist das Tapas Da Trinidade. Wir hatten am 1. Januar sogar das Glück, auf der Terrasse zu sitzen.

Mein Tipp: Der Sangria und der Tomatenreis, unglaublich aromatisch!

Pastéis de Belém

Was natürlich außerdem ein kulinarischer Klassiker in Lissabon ist, sind die Pastéis de Belém. Das sind kleine Blätterteigtörtchen mit Vanillepuddingfüllung, die es fast überall zu kaufen gibt. Am besten schmecken sie warm und mit Zimt!
